For the collab tips!

Comments

If the bigots are not willing to listen, then they will bring about their own downfall. Only the strong are fit for this world. And as all should know, knowledge is power.

I know this is completely off-topic, but Your kirby collab, and Dad N Me beginnings flashes were awesome, dude!!

Mate, it wasn't MY Kirby Collab. I was invited in a few months before it was finished. The collab was lead by FlashfireEX here on Newgrounds, and includes animations from 15 different animators including myself. With Kirby being my favorite video game character of all time, I joined in immediately, and had made two skits and an easter egg by the time it was submitted. Unfortunately, my second part (which was the second skit in the collab) was very much rushed because FF wanted it submitted as soon as possible.

My Dad n' Me movie was rushed as well, but I still find it more watchable than my lame Nintendo Story Series. I'm gonna finish up work for more collabs and then get to work on my own solo projects to really test my skills. But thanks for the kind words!

What's it like working with tons of people? Do you just send them stuff you made on your computer or do you have meetings and stuff? I had the idea of starting a collab myself, but I wouldn't really know what to do.

To start a public collab here on Newgrounds , you would need a 3.5 Batting Average. That is, you would need THREE submissions to the portal with scores that average over 3.5. Or at least one Solo submission with a score over 3.5.

Basically, people want to work under a leader with some great skill in Flash, who is also patient, organized, and willing to see the project through. The past few years have been a mess in the collab world. So many collabs have died due to poor leadership, and people saying they'd contribute, but never did. I even had my own Resident Evil Collab up for 8 months until I pulled the plug. About 15-20 people said they'd help out, only 4 people (including myself) delivered. It was mindblowing.

If you think you know the basic ins and outs of Flash, then I reccomend you join a collab rather than start one until you get really good. Collabs are great ways to practice animation, and it's fun to work with other people. Communication is key. You want people to know about your progress on your skit, and be there when people ask for feedback on their skits. And under NO circumstances should you announce that you'll make something and not report back. Even if you decide not to make a skit, you should at least have the decency to tell them.

Collabs are held in the Collaboration Forums: http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/forum/1 9

There you can join collabs freely. Basically, you read the rules and theme of the collab first. And decide if you'd be interested in taking part. If you are, then make sure to check if there's a rule against beginners joining. Many collabs want only skillful animators, and won't accept work unless it's really good. If you think you're capable, then you just post in the thread saying you'd like to make a skit, and wait for the collab leader's approval. After finishing a skit, you just send him the fla. file of your skit through a private source (email for example). I'm currently working on a skit for the Dinosawrs collab (being led by my friend), and the Many Kirbies Collab (spiritual sequel to the Kirby Collab).

Unfortunately, I may drop out of TMKC, considering we're down to just six animators, and only a few good skits. With a deadline in exactly one month.
